Ghar el Melh

Beautiful beach, small town, beach restaurants.
One of the most well known beaches within striking distance of Tunis. We usually avoid the motorway when coming from the northern suburbs and take the "coast road" which means going straight on and not turning left in the small town just before GEANT.

See what wiki says.

The beach: stunning to look at but there is not much shade and it can be windy, so some sort of beach furniture (a la Brighton beach) would be an advantage. Some people schlep out along the rocks to the point where there are slightly more sheltered coves. What is nice abotu the beach, apart from to look at, is the shallow water which is great for splashing about in, especially for kids.

For a walk: there is a dramatic "mountain" behind the beach; on the other side of which is Raf Raf which is also has nice beach outside town and a seafront / promenade for evening kebabage.

What to eat (and to get some shade): There is a nice restaurant next to the parking at the beach. You need to order your fish in the morning as otherwise there's a good chance there will be nothing left when you roll up at 2 o'clock.

The town: never stopped but it looks most pleasant. There is fort and a harbour to explore I think. ANy suggestions welcome.

Hergla

Hergla is less than two hours straight down the motorway from Tunis. Dead easy and fast.

Its got white, Sidi Bou style, houses and beach and a charming little square - although a bus of Germans did stop in said square when we were there. For the most part though it is small, charming, clean and quite.

NomarmiteinTunisia rates it!

We are at a small, family restaurant close to the square int he old village.

It's specialities seem to be fishing and basket making.
